Don’t you just love decorating for the different seasons and holidays?! For me, there is something therapeutic about changing the look of our house every month or so. We currently rent a townhouse so making big changes to the decor like painting or remodeling is out of the question. But little changes are definitely doable and make our rental feel more like a home. One of my favorite things to change up is my Mini Light Box.
My friend Jenn scored some major deals on Heidi Swapp Light Boxes a few months back and she was sweet enough to save one for me. I was so excited to add one of these beauties to my decor! If you haven’t heard of them yet they are these super cute mini marquees (they come in different sizes) that you can have in your home to display holiday sayings, motivational quotes and more. There are a ton of letter and word options available but sometimes I want it to say something specific or special to me. So I decided to make my own inserts!
If you want to make this exact design you can click here and open it up in the design space.
Step 1: Open up your design space and draw a rectangle that measures 6.5″ wide by 1.3″ high.
Step 2: Insert text for the first line (The quote I did was Land That I Love so I just did Land). The font I used is All The Stars.
Step 3: Move the text over the rectangle and size the text to fit inside the rectangle.
Step 4: Using the DUPLICATE feature duplicate the rectangle 3 times and the text box 3 times.
Step 5: Change the 3 text boxes to That, I and Love.
Step 6: Change the color of the letters to the color you want them to be cut out of. It doesn’t have to be the exact color but this way you hit “Make It” you will have the designs separated for you.
Step 7: Attach the plastic sheets to a light grip mat and turn your dial to LIGHT CARDSTOCK. Cut the inserts.
Step 8: Attach your vinyl to the cutting mat and change the dial to vinyl. Cut your first set of sayings out of your first color. Repeat with the second color.
Step 9: Weed the vinyl around the stars and remove the letters from inside the stars. Having the weeder (like the one that comes in the tool kits) is super helpful with removing the small pieces.
Step 10: Attach transfer tape to the vinyl (this is a great post that goes into detail on how to apply transfer tape).
Step 11: Attach transfer tape with vinyl to plastic inserts. Remove transfer tape.
Step 12: Put inserts into lightbox.
**Note: I have a lightbox mini so the dimensions on my design are for the mini version. If you have the full size version measure the height of your letters and the length of your lightbox to determine the size you’ll need.
What quote, saying or phrase do you want to make for your lightbox now?
