When we’re out having fun in the sun sometimes we forget to put sunscreen on. Sunburns are brutal but you can help take the heat, burn and pain away with this homemade all natural after burn cream.
Summer is definitely my favorite season! The warm weather, longer days, extra time with family; what could be better?! I come from a long line of fair skinned folk and if I don’t apply sunscreen every few hours I get burnt pretty easily; I always joke that the only way I tan is if my freckles start to combine. Sadly I’ve passed that down to my kids too so I try to be more aware of the time we are in the sun and make sure we are all covered with sunscreen. Having two very active boys and a baby girl this doesn’t always happen and already this year we have had a few sunburns. Thankfully I made a batch of this after burn cream in the spring so those painful sunburns don’t have to cause us pain.
I remember as a kid hating the smell and feel of aloe gel. It was so cold and sticky and smelled weird and I just didn’t like it. I also remember having to put it on several times a day for several days. Often times I would forget; the sting of the burn would come back and it would hurt just as bad as it did when I first got burnt. So one of my goals when making this cream was to make it not so, what’s the word, annoying for my kids. And I definitely succeeded in that! Or my kids aren’t as picky as I was.
Personally I love the feel and smell of this cream. The cocoa butter gives it a nice soft feel and the peppermint oil gives it a cool, relaxing smell. Also, the coconut oil helps it go on smooth and not feel sticky. The best part though is how quickly it works! Within hours the redness of even the most lobster red burns are gone and we have yet to hear a whimper or cry about the burn or sting of the pain. You also only have to apply once, maybe twice at the most. Within a day or two the burn is completely gone.
I store this in the fridge in a half-pint sized mason jar to keep it cool for when we need it. You can store it on the counter or in the medicine cabinet too if you’d like. But if you (or your kids) are fair skinned like we are, make sure to whip up a batch of this cream! What’s your go-to for sun burn relief?

I like to use this Aloe Vera Gel because it has Vitamin E in it which helps leave your skin soft and smooth.
